Is T/C 65 Polyester 35 Cotton Waterproof?
Many customers ask, “Is 65 polyester 35 cotton waterproof?” In short, 65% polyester and 35% cotton fabric is not inherently waterproof. However, it can provide some natural resistance to moisture compared with pure cotton. This blend combines the strength and water-resistant characteristics of polyester with the softness and breathability of cotton. While polyester fibers are hydrophobic and repel water to some extent, cotton fibers are absorbent. As a result, T/C 65/35 fabric can resist light moisture or minor splashes for a short time, but it is not fully waterproof in its untreated condition.
That said, this fabric can be made water-resistant or waterproof with suitable surface treatments. For example, applying a WR (water-repellent) finish to the fabric surface forms a protective layer that helps water bead up and roll off rather than soak in. Treated fabric of this type is often used for workwear, uniforms, and outdoor apparel where durability and some water protection are required.
For applications that call for true waterproof performance—such as rainwear or heavy-duty outdoor gear—additional lamination or coating technologies are used. These may include PU (polyurethane) coating or PVC backing, which helps block water penetration while maintaining fabric strength and flexibility.
The benefit of T/C 65/35 polyester-cotton fabric is its balance. It offers better wrinkle resistance, durability, and quick-drying performance than pure cotton while remaining comfortable and breathable. It is widely used in work uniforms, trousers, jackets, school uniforms, medical scrubs, and home textiles, particularly when both comfort and functional performance are important.
In summary, standard T/C 65/35 fabric is not waterproof by itself, but it can be upgraded with water-repellent or waterproof finishes to meet specific functional needs. This makes it a highly adaptable fabric solution for both everyday wear and specialized garments. Whether you need basic durability or enhanced weather protection, T/C 65/35 polyester-cotton fabric offers the flexibility to match your application requirements.
